Current research and topics of interest: The construction of alpha male masculinities in Omegaverse fics.

Natalia has a degree in History and Portuguese-English Language and Literature from UFRJ, working as a private English teacher and independent researcher. Within the center, in addition to being coordinator, she is also responsible for the Fan Studies and Fanfiction Study Group and the NEPF² editing and translation group, Beta Collective. Her interests within the field of Fan Studies include the history of fanfiction and fandom, fanfiction as literary text, characterization in fanfics, slash, omegaverse, and Boys Love—specifically Thai fandom and its ship-fixing culture. Her first academic research in the field was her final thesis, which consisted of an autoethnography of the process of writing fanfiction for the Thai series KinnPorsche fandom. She is currently developing research on the figure of alphas in the omegaverse. Her life as a fan began early, in 2005 when she was 14, and remains strong and steady. She is an avid reader of fanfiction, but only writes when inspiration strikes her everywhere. She is currently active in the KinnPorsche series fandom (reading only Kimchay ship fics), Bridgerton (completely obsessed with Polin), and the fandoms of GMMTV series, especially the works of the GeminiFourth, PerthSanta, and OffGun ships. She is also an avid fan of EXO, Suho (to the point of collecting his photocards) and Jeff Satur, but is not as active in the online fandom of these artists.

Current research and topics of interest: pop culture, digital communication theories, fan studies
My academic research focuses on theories and objects of pop culture in the context of digital environments and creative/cultural industries. In this sense, I am interested in phenomena that mobilize audiences and fans based on cultural recombinations of pop in its various interpretations and that impact the different ways in which digital communication is present in various instances of social life and how these phenomena constitute flows that are sometimes niche and sometimes massive and impact everyday transformations. Thus, fan mobilizations, the relationships between subcultures and the mainstream, memes, fanfics, pop music, comics, audiovisual media, etc., in their circulation and remixing on digital platforms interest me as a research subject and are amenable to theorization based on cultural categories such as gender, race, nation, age group, among others. I chose to be the teacher responsible for NEPF² because the importance of what the project has been doing is enormous in the contemporary context of research on fans and fan fiction, in addition to having an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary characteristic that involves everything from pedagogical aspects to the social impact of the uses of digital media for an understanding of the world based on different narratives. The work carried out by NEPF has an impact on research and outreach that aims to strengthen the local, regional, and national community. I strongly believe in the potential and connections of the center, and I believe that UFF is the ideal place for creative experimentation.
